CHRISTUS Children’s is the first hospital in San Antonio with a dedicated pediatric acute inpatient rehabilitation program. Our compassionate team and thoughtfully designed facilities ensure your child receives the care they need in a safe, engaging environment.

We support families with the training and education they need for their child to transition to home and community successfully. We strive to do all we can to help your child get back home and continue their rehabilitation recovery through outpatient therapy services in their home community.

Children who are reliant on a ventilator, BiPAP, or CPAP machine as part of their therapeutic treatment can benefit from inpatient therapy. Children with tracheostomy tubes, including those on respiratory support can be treated in our program. Typically, patients will transition to this program from an intensive care unit at CHRISTUS Children’s or another hospital as they recover from an illness or injury that has affected their breathing.
In some instances, a comprehensive therapy program following intensive care can enable a child to go home sooner and, in some cases, reduce or eliminate reliance on respiratory support.
To qualify for admission to the acute inpatient rehabilitation program, your child must be able to participate in at least three nonconsecutive hours of therapy each day and be medically stable.
