Appropriate candidates
Research shows that participation in medically-supervised physical activity after a cardiac event
can lower a person’s future risk of a heart attack, as well as help them live longer than a patient who
does not participate in cardiac rehab. The chances for survival improve for those who take part in
these life-saving programs.
A physician referral is required to
participate in a cardiac rehab program. And
your cardiologist or primary care provider
can best determine if and when you are
ready to begin. You may be a candidate if
you have experienced any of the following:
- Recent heart attack
- Angioplasty and/or stent
- Heart bypass | Transplant | Valve surgery
- Stable angina | Chronic heart failure
