Five years of care highlight the demand for knee treatment in East Texas
It's safe to say that a lot of East Texans are getting their knees worked on.
Five years after opening a dedicated destination for orthopedic and sports medicine care in Tyler, CHRISTUS Health continues to help East Texans find relief from knee pain and injury. Today, knee care remains the largest area of treatment provided at the CHRISTUS Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute.
Recent surgical activity reflects a broad range of knee care, including knee replacements, ACL reconstructions, meniscus procedures, fracture repair and other orthopedic surgeries. The institute performs more than 1,000 orthopedic surgeries each year, with knee-related procedures representing nearly one in four surgeries performed.
While knee procedures stand out, the institute provides care for a wide range of orthopedic conditions affecting East Texans. Patients seek treatment for arthritis, sports injuries, workplace injuries, fractures, traumatic injuries, hand and wrist conditions and joint replacements. Recent surgical activity has included robotic-assisted joint replacement, rotator cuff repair, carpal tunnel release, fracture fixation and ligament reconstruction procedures.
The CHRISTUS Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute was designed to bring orthopedic specialists, sports medicine experts, surgery, rehabilitation and recovery services together through one coordinated program. In addition to caring for surgical patients, the institute supports local athletes through Saturday Sports Clinics, providing timely evaluation and treatment recommendations for sports-related injuries during the school sports season.
The institute also focuses on what happens after surgery. Follow-up care, rehabilitation and recovery services are integrated into the patient experience, helping patients regain mobility, rebuild strength and return to their daily activities.
Since opening in 2021, CHRISTUS Health has expanded the Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute model to additional communities, including Longview, Beaumont and Texarkana, helping more patients access specialty orthopedic care closer to home.
